Lakers vs. Pistons NBA Betting Odds

Must be nice to be a billionaire eh? Pistons owner Tom Gores obviously is a few times over and thus it barely fazed Gores to fire coach Monty Williams after just one season despite being owed around $65 million as Detroit lost a franchise-record 68 games in 2023-24 and also tied the league record with a 28-game losing streak.

Cleveland surprisingly fired coach J.B. Bickerstaff after last season despite Bickerstaff leading the Cavaliers to the Eastern Conference semifinals, and Bickerstaff was snapped up by Detroit to replace Williams. But the NBA is more of a players’ league than any other major professional sport, and the coaching change hasn’t made much difference with the Pistons again among the NBA’s worst teams.

The Lakers are also under a first-year head coach in J.J. Redick, and things have largely gone pretty well in the early going for him and L.A. Anthony Davis is off to the best start of his Hall of Fame career and LeBron James is going strong at soon-to-be age 40.

Los Angeles easily won both games last season vs. Detroit and leads the all-time series 111-39.

Los Angeles Lakers

The Lakers lost the first two games of their current five-game road trip but snapped that skid Friday with a 131-125 victory at the Raptors. Anthony Davis has been playing like an MVP candidate in the early going – the former No. 1 overall pick and potential future Hall of Famer has never won the award – and scored a season-high 38 points to go with 11 rebounds. AD leads the league in scoring (31.8 PPG) and is fifth in rebounding (12.0 RPG) as one could argue that he’s the primary guy now and not LeBron James. Although with the game on the line, we know who will get the ball.

LeBron had 27 points, 10 assists and six boards Friday. Guard Austin Reaves left in the first half with an ankle injury but was able to return. While Reaves had 20 points, that appeared to be affecting him as he was 0-for-9 from the field in the second half. He did practice Sunday and is probable tonight. Fellow guard D’Angelo Russell is questionable. The Lakers are 6-2 ATS in their past eight games.

Detroit Pistons

Detroit was a 106-92 upset winner in Brooklyn on Sunday to improve to 2-2 on the road compared to 0-3 at home. The Pistons outscored the Nets by 19 in the second half and had six players score in double figures led by former No. 1 overall pick Cade Cunningham’s 19 points; he leads the club in averaging 24.1 points per game. Jalen Duren had 13 and 17 rebounds. Duren is shooting a ridiculous 89.3 per cent from the field as most of his makes are putbacks/dunks.

Second-year forward Ausar Thompson, the No. 5 overall pick in the 2023 draft, has yet to play this season due to a blood clotting issue and isn’t expected tonight. This is the fourth-youngest roster in the NBA. The problem is there isn’t much scoring outside of Cunningham most nights, and Detroit ranks second-to-last in the NBA in scoring at 105.0 PPG. The Pistons are 1-9 SU in their past 10 vs. Western Conference foes.
