LeBron James is up to averaging 29 points a game, but this hasn’t translated to much team success, as was the case Sunday in Miami.
Entering the season as two favourites for the Larry O’Brien, and possibly going up against one another, the Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets haven’t had the seasons they’ve anticipated thus far. The Lakers remain under .500, and in eighth place in the West and just 4.5 games above elimination. Brooklyn’s in third, but a recent 5-5 stretch has kept them among the pack of East teams sitting from first all the way to the final playoff spot.
Brooklyn’s gone 2-2 without NBA-leading scorer Kevin Durant who’s out with a sprained knee. The Lakers have been about at that .500 pace too, without Anthony Davis since December 17. But good news is here for L.A., as Davis is listed as probable to play against the Nets.
Tip-off at Barclays Center is 7:30 p.m. EST, with the road Lakers 3.5-point favourites and the over-under at 226 on the NBA odds.
Lakers vs. Nets NBA Betting Odds
By this point of the season Brooklyn bettors should know about the Nets’ home record against the spread. The Nets are 12-11 straight up on home court this season, but then 5-17-1 ATS. This is a part of 4-10 ATS run overall, as Brooklyn is one of the worst-covering NBA teams. But, L.A.’s right there with them with a 19-28 ATS record overall and 9-11 ATS on the road.
Instead, the Lakers and their seventh-ranked offence have been all about high-scoring games as seven of their last nine appearances have gone Over. The Over was the play back on Christmas too, when Brooklyn defeated L.A. 122-115.

Davis has missed the Lakers last 17 games and of those 17, LeBron James has led the Lakers in scoring in every one. The 37-year-old James is up to averaging 29 points a game, an average putting him only behind Durant in scoring. But this hasn’t translated to much team success, as was the case Sunday in Miami.
The Heat topped the Lakers 113-107 in a bout that saw James drop 33 on 12 of 22 shooting to go with 11 rebounds. Russell Westbrook had a strong game too with 24 points on 9 of 15 shots from the field.
Brooklyn Nets
Kyrie Irving was at the centre of the fireworks in the Nets’ latest outing, a 136-125 loss at Minnesota. Irving put up a game-high 30 points along with six rebounds and five assists. Brooklyn outrebounded the Timberwolves 48-37 but 19 turnovers to Minnesota’s nine did them in.
The 136 points against marked the fourth time this month Brooklyn has allowed at least 120 points in regulation. The Nets are now 19th in the NBA allowing 109.7 a game, but still better than the Lakers who sit 27th with 112.7 points against per game.
