The Miami Heat have a chance to grab top spot in the Eastern Conference when they host the L.A. Lakers on Sunday night.
There is a lot going on in the Los Angeles Lakers locker room lately. Despite being listed as championship favourites heading into the season, they sit at 23-23 on the year and have lost four of their last six games. However, they were able to knock off the Orlando Magic by 11 points in their last game out. Next up is the Miami Heat, who are a tough opponent and are getting healthy at the right time. They have won six out of their last eight, but can they keep their momentum going?
Miami opened as a 5-point favourite on the NBA odds, with a total of 216.5.
Lakers vs. Heat NBA Betting Odds
The Lakers are 3-8 against the spread in their last 11 games played on a Sunday. They are also just 3-10 ATS in their past 13 games played when going up against a team with a winning percentage greater than .600 on the season. Los Angeles has been able to keep games high scoring though, with the over cashing out in six of their last eight games overall.
As for the Heat, they are 6-0 ATS in their past six games when coming into the matchup off an ATS loss. They are also 7-2 ATS in their last nine games overall. Similar to the Lakers, the over has been consistent for Miami. It has cashed out in seven of their last nine games when getting just one day of rest beforehand.
Los Angeles Lakers
We could finally be seeing Anthony Davis back on the court after suffering a knee injury a few weeks ago. He was officially ruled as questionable for this game but is still a game-time decision. Assuming Davis gets held out for precautionary reasons, the Lakers are left with LeBron James and Russell Westbrook to lead the way. James has carried this roster, averaging 28.9 points, 7.6 rebounds and 6.4 assists per game. However, Westbrook hasn’t fit well into this offence so far and it has caused issues. He’s the current scapegoat for the team’s struggles but is coming off a nice 18-point, 11-rebound effort. We’ll see if he’s “turned a corner” as he says or if the Lakers struggles will continue.
Miami Heat
Kyle Lowry will unfortunately be ruled out for this contest due to personal reasons, but the Heat still have a lot of talent left to utilize for this game. For starters, Jimmy Butler is the lifeblood of this team. He averages 21.4 points, 5.9 rebounds and 5.9 assists per game. He has gotten great help from Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo as well, making his job a lot easier. Herro has shaken off his sophomore slump and is averaging 20.7 points per game while shooting 38.8 per cent from three.
This team plays with a lot of chemistry from top to bottom, which is opposite of the Lakers, and they are so deep that their bench has shown an ability to outscore an opposing team’s starting lineup on occasion.
Miami is also the fourth-best defensive team in the league, which will probably cause the Lakers a lot of issues.
