Knicks vs. Raptors NBA Betting Odds

Fridays had been dedicated to the NBA’s In-Season Tournament the past few weeks, but group stage play is over and the knockout round begins Monday. Neither of these teams made it.

It’s the first of four regular-season meetings between the Knicks and Raptors. Toronto won three of four last season but split at home. Fred VanVleet torched the Knicks in averaging 29.3 points but of course is now leading a resurgence of the Houston Rockets. Pascal Siakam averaged 28.5 points and 9.2 rebounds, and Gary Trent Jr. 23 points (missed one game). Toronto native RJ Barrett led New York in averaging 30.7 points, while Julius Randle put up 26.5 points and 14.5 rebounds in the series.

The Knicks really are much the same as they were last season when the finished 47-35 and fifth in the East and then upset No. 4 Cleveland in Round 1 before bowing out in the conference semifinals in six against Miami. That’s probably the ceiling for the 2023-24 team as well. The Knicks have a war chest of draft picks and are waiting for that  next unhappy superstar to demand a trade and then pounce. Karl-Anthony Towns had been a popular rumour, but the Timberwolves are excellent this season so KAT isn’t leaving. The dream scenario was Giannis Antetokounmpo, but he signed an extension with the Bucks not too long ago.

The Raptors lead the all-time series 61-45 and are 35-17 as the home team.

New York Knicks

Second of a back-to-back for the Knicks, although they played what should have been essentially a scrimmage at home Thursday night against the truly horrific Detroit Pistons … but had to work to beat them 118-112. It was pretty obvious that New York was overlooking Detroit, now on a team-record 16-game losing streak, until waking up in the fourth quarter. Jalen Brunson scored 42 points, and Julius Randle had 29 points and 10 rebounds. Toronto native RJ Barrett played only 24 minutes but isn’t believed to be hurt. Could be simply that he was minus-5 and struggling with his shot. That meant more minutes for the likes of Josh Hart and Donte DiVincenzo off the bench, and the latter was key in the fourth quarter by hitting a trio of three-pointers and finishing with 12 points. The Knicks are 9-0 this season against teams with a losing record. They are 1-3 this year in the second of a B2B.

Toronto Raptors

Sometimes the NBA just doesn’t make any sense at all. Toronto looked quite bad Tuesday night in Brooklyn in losing 115-103 and had to play 24 hours later at home against a Phoenix Suns team on two days of rest, had won seven in a row and welcomed back Kevin Durant from injury. Naturally, the Raptors won 112-105. Once again, six Toronto players scored in double figures led by 23 from Scottie Barnes. Precious Achiuwa was excellent off the bench with a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds in just 18 minutes. The Raptors improved to 11-6 all-time when Achiuwa records a double-double. Durant was good with 30 points, but the Dinos really gave fellow star Devin Booker issues as he was 2-for-10 for only eight points. Booker was hampered by a rolled ankle he suffered early in the third quarter, but OG Anunoby had played great defence before that happened. With 25 assists vs. the Suns (Dennis Schroder had 12), the Raptors set a franchise record for most assists (530) within a 20-game span to start the season. The previous mark was 515 to start the 2019-20 campaign. No notable players on the injury report for Friday.
