It’s the first game of the New Year and a rare home matinee for the Toronto Raptors on Sunday as they host the New York Knicks.

The NBA odds, as is going to be the case for a while, will depend on player availability.

Knicks vs. Raptors NBA Betting Odds

It’s the third of four regular-season meetings with the Knicks and the Dinos close the regular season at Madison Square Garden on April 10 (that could be a matinee).

Toronto leads the season series 2-0, winning 113-104 at MSG on Nov. 1 and 90-87 at Scotiabank Arena on Dec. 10 – the Raptors’ 10th straight home victory against the Knicks. Gary Trent Jr. is averaging 25.0 points in the two games and Fred VanVleet 17.0 points, 9.5 assists and 7.5 rebounds. Toronto native RJ Barrett is averaging 23.0 points and 6.0 rebounds in the two games for the Knicks, and Julius Randle 17.5 points, 11.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists.

The Raptors lead the all-time series 57-43 and are 33-16 at home. They are 6-4 in the past 10 overall and 8-2 against the spread.

New York Knicks

The Knicks’ best player is Julius Randle, but he landed in protocols a few days ago. Best as this writer can tell under the new rules, he won’t be eligible to play Sunday — but things change almost daily. Not surprisingly, the Knicks were inept without him Friday, getting crushed 95-80 at a bad Oklahoma City team. Canadian RJ Barrett (recently out of quarantine himself) is the focal point of the offence with Randle out and had 26 points. No other starter had more than nine. Point guard Kemba Walker was out with a sore knee and is day-to-day.

Toronto Raptors

The Dinos were nearly whole Friday and beat the visiting Clippers 116-108 in the team’s first game without fans allowed at Scotiabank Arena this season – that will be the case for at least the next three weeks to combat COVID. That absolutely has a betting impact. Guys get fired up in front of home crowds. Fred VanVleet returned Friday after missing two games and had 31 points, nine assists and four rebounds. OG Anunoby also was back and had 26 points, six boards and four steals.

The baffling case of Chris Boucher continued. After one of the best nights by any NBA player this season Wednesday in a loss to the Sixers, he was banished back to the bench and had six points in 23 minutes. Rookie Scottie Barnes has cleared protocols as well but didn’t play with a sore knee. He may Sunday.
