Two of the NBA’s top-10 defensive teams face off on Tuesday night when the Utah Jazz make their lone visit of the season to Toronto.

NBA Point Spread and Betting Analysis

There may not be a more international team in the NBA than the Utah Jazz. Their best overall player is French centre Rudy Gobert, a rebounding and shot-blocking machine who is annually an NBA Defensive Player of the Year candidate. Their starting point guard is Spaniard Ricky Rubio. They have a few Aussies, a Brazilian and a Swiss.

The Jazz also have in their system Canadian guard Naz Mitrou-Long, who is from Mississauga and played collegiately at Iowa State. The 25-year-old, who wasn’t drafted, has played just two games for Utah this season (three career) and has spent much of the time with the franchise’s G-League squad in Salt Lake City.

This wraps up the season series with Toronto as the Jazz lost at home to the Raptors on Nov. 5, 124-111. That was the last of a season-high four-game losing streak for Utah. Four Toronto players led the team with 17 points, including Kyle Lowry, who chipped in 11 assists and seven rebounds. Kawhi Leonard didn’t play and neither did Jazz leading scorer and excellent second-year player Donovan Mitchell. Gobert had 14 points and 12 rebounds and Alec Burks 22 points off the bench. Burks has since been traded to Cleveland. That was the first NBA game in which Mitrou-Long played in 2018. He was scoreless in four minutes.

Utah has covered just one of the past 11 meetings.

Utah Jazz

The Jazz look to get to .500 for the first time since they were 13-13. They are off a 129-97 home rout of New York on Saturday. It was over after a quarter with Utah leading 39-17. Gobert had 25 points (10-for-12 from the field) and 16 rebounds in just 25 minutes. It was his 31st double-double of the season. With Rubio sidelined by injury, Dante Exum started and had a career-high 13 assists. Utah had a season-high 60 rebounds and tied a franchise record with 70 points in the paint. Not clear if Rubio will play here. He took a spill after a hard foul by Philly’s Joel Embiid last Thursday. Jae Crowder (thumb) and Grayson Allen (ankle) also sat Saturday. Because of the injuries, that’s likely why Mitrou-Long was called up to play against the Knicks. He had three points in nine minutes. Utah is 1-4-1 ATS in its past six on the road.

Toronto Raptors

Toronto returned home from a three-game trip Sunday and beat the terrible Chicago Bulls 95-89 – failing to cover the spread for a fourth straight game — behind 27 points and nine rebounds from Leonard and 20 points and 12 boards from Pascal Siakam. The Raptors were without Lowry for the seventh time in the past eight games due to his sore lower back. Fred VanVleet got the start again and had 10 points and seven assists. Coach Nick Nurse believes Lowry will return soon. Toronto finished the 2018 calendar year 35-10 at home, matching the franchise record for most regular-season home wins in one calendar year. Only Philadelphia had more home wins in 2018.
