A rather unusual stretch of schedule for the Toronto Raptors concludes Friday as they host All-Star Trae Young (probably) and the Atlanta Hawks.

The Dinos opened as 2-point favourites on the NBA odds with a total of 216.5 points. Both teams are playing the second of a back-to-back.

Hawks vs. Raptors NBA Betting Odds

Friday is the second of four regular-season meetings between the teams. Not sure I’ve seen a schedule quite like Toronto’s over the past six games, which was altered a bit due to COVID. The Dinos visited the Bulls, Heat and Hawks and then hosted the Heat, Bulls and Hawks. You see that in Major League Baseball sometimes.

On Monday, the Raptors caught a big break in that Hawks All-Star Trae Young didn’t play and won in Atlanta 106-100.  He should be in there Friday, but it’s possible a key Toronto player or two could sit with the team playing its second game in 24 hours. Maybe not, though, as Nick Nurse generally doesn’t do that if players are healthy, and the Raptors have two days off before a trip to Charlotte.

Toronto is 10-4 against the spread in the past 14 meetings as the home team. The total has gone over in five of the previous seven.

Atlanta Hawks

Atlanta star Trae Young was a game-time call Thursday with a shoulder injury, but he played and scored 43 points to lead an upset of the NBA-best Phoenix Suns, 124-115, and end their 11-game winning streak. It was Young’s 20th career 40-point game, becoming the sixth player with at least 20 before turning age 24 since the 1976-77 ABA/NBA merger. Just for a comparison, Michael Jordan leads with 31. Young will be 24 in September. Young’s 43 points were the second-most over the last 50 seasons in a win against an opponent with a win percentage of .800 or better (minimum 50 games into season). Presumably, Young will play here but obviously monitor that. Starting forward John Collins had 19 points and 10 rebounds before leaving Thursday with a shoulder injury and is in question tonight. The Hawks are 8-1 ATS in their past nine overall.

Toronto Raptors

The Raptors won their fourth in a row Thursday, 127-120 in OT at home over Chicago. That would have been a crushing loss as the Dinos essentially led the entire way but found themselves down two with about two seconds left. Newly-named All-Star reserve Fred VanVleet missed a driving floater, but rookie Scottie Barnes tipped in the rebound with 0.7 seconds remaining to tie it at 114. Chicago missed a three-pointer to win and then Toronto was the better team in OT. Pascal Siakam had 25 points and 13 rebounds, while three other Raptors starters all finished with 21 points: VanVleet, Barnes and OG Anunoby. Chris Boucher was a monster off the bench with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Khem Birch surprisingly returned from a nasal fracture but only played five minutes. Toronto is 7-1 ATS in its past eight in the second of a back-to-back.
