The Memphis Grizzlies roll into LA fresh off a last-second victory against the Brooklyn Nets. The Lakers are double-digit favourites against the rebuilding Grizzlies, but they’ll have to contend with explosive rookie point guard Ja Morant.

NBA Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Memphis is projected to be one of the worst teams in the Association this campaign. The club’s season win total was set around 26.5 which put it among the lowest in the NBA. If not for some late-game heroics, the Grizz would be still winless.

Some clutch play late in the fourth quarter and overtime on Sunday night helped the squad get by the Brooklyn Nets. The Grizzlies won outright 134-133 as 4-point home underdogs. It was their first win and their first cover of the season.

The Purple and Gold, on the other hand, are among the favourites to win the NBA title. Sports Interaction list the Lakers as the second most likely champion at +350. Only the Los Angeles Clippers have shorter odds to lift the Larry O’Brien Trophy in 2020.

SIA installed the Lake Show as a double-digit favourite for the second time in as many nights. The Lakers covered as 13.5-point chalk against the Charlotte Hornets on Sunday night. LA scored 120 points – by far its highest offensive output of the season.

Memphis Grizzlies

The grit and grind days are long gone in Memphis. Marc Gasol and Mike Conley Jr. – the last pieces of the prior core – have moved on. The franchise is building around versatile big man Jaren Jackson Jr. and dynamic rookie point guard Ja Morant. Morant is coming off a 30-point, nine-assist (both NBA career high totals) performance.

Morant’s style is a major departure to the Grizzlies of old. The former Murray State Racer has Memphis pushing the tempo to try and get easy buckets in transition. Entering Monday’s slate of games, the Grizzlies are playing with the fourth highest pace in the Association (108.56 possessions per 48 minutes).

Los Angeles Lakers

The Lakers are on the opposite side of the spectrum. LA is last in pace across the league. The team is averaging 98 possessions per 48 minutes.

That should be unexpected. LeBron James-led squads play at a slower tempo – particularly over the last five years. Speaking of King James, he is playing the point guard role for the Lakers. He’s among the league leaders in assists with an average of 10 helpers per game.
