A winning streak of at least four games is ending Sunday when the Memphis Grizzlies and Los Angeles Lakers meet in California Sunday night. Memphis’ eight wins in a row has propelled them up to fourth place in the Western Conference with a 27-14 record. A win for the Grizzlies on Sunday would be a franchise record for consecutive wins. The Lakers are riding a four-game win streak, and sit in sixth in the West with a 21-19 record.

Memphis is staying right in L.A. too, defeating the Clippers 123-108 last night on the road. Sunday’s the last of five straight home games for the Lakers, who last took the court Friday in a 134-118 win over the Hawks.

Tip-off at Crypto.com Arena goes at 9:30 p.m. EST. The Lakers are 3.5-point favourite at home with the over-under at 226.5 on the NBA odds.

Memphis enters as one of the league’s top teams against the spread with a 14-5 record. The Lakers meanwhile struggle to cover at home with just nine of them in their 24 homes game this season. Memphis has also covered in five straight gams.

Memphis’ eight game winning streak started on December 26 and marked the beginning of a tear for Ja Morant, although the star guard sat out yesterday due to left thigh soreness. Prior to yesterday, Morant led the Grizzlies in scoring in all of their past six games while reaching over 30 points in four of the six contests.

Morant’s leading Memphis with 25 points per game and is averaging over 6.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists too. Without Morant on Saturday, forward Jaren Jackson Jr. stepped up with 26 points, five blocks, and three steals and put up a 10 for 10 showing from the free throw line.

Los Angeles Lakers

It’s been the LeBron James show in L.A. recently, especially while Anthony Davis remains out with a knee injury. At 37 years old, James has led Los Angeles in scoring in 10 straight games. Lebron’s averaging 28.7 points per game this season which is his best output since 2009­­–10.

On Friday versus Atlanta, Lebron had a game-high 32 on 13 of 24 shooting, plus just fell short of a triple-double with nine assists and eight rebounds. Guard Malik Monk went off for 29 points, a season-high for the former first round pick and also his third consecutive 20-point game.
