Clippers vs. Heat Prediction: NBA Odds, Point Spread

Andrew Rogers | Updated Jan 28, 2021

As one of the teams most ravaged by COVID-19 protocols, you can’t blame the Heat for being thankful that they’ll get to face a Clippers team dealing with its own big absences.

The Heat and Clippers tangle Thursday night in Miami, and both teams will be missing players – though while L.A. is guaranteed to be without Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, the Heat might see some of their key pieces return to action.

NBA Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Heat are four-point favourites against a Clippers team that will feature a starkly different starting lineup than they one they had been using for the majority of the season. The Clippers are 4-2 ATS in their last six games and 4-1 ATS in their previous five meetings with Miami, but this isn’t the same team that contributed to those trends. And Miami has fared well against the Pacific Division, having covered four of the past five games in that situation.

The total for this game is on the low side by today’s NBA standards at 215.5, and we have plenty of trends pointing bettors to the Under. The Clippers have gone below the number in 10 of their last 15 games as an underdog, and have converted the Under in three of their past four overall. Miami has four Unders in its last five games, and is 8-3 to the Under in its past 11 home games – the same O/U record these teams share in their previous 11 head-to-head tilts.

Los Angeles Clippers

No Kawhi. No PG. No Patrick Beverley, with the veteran point guard nursing a knee injury. What does that mean for the Clippers’ starting five? Expect to see plenty of Reggie Jackson, who played 39 minutes in Tuesday’s 108-99 loss to the Atlanta Hawks. The Clippers will also lean more heavily on Nicolas Batum and Luke Kennard, who also saw 30+ minutes in defeat. Leonard and George average a combined 49.8 points and 11.1 assists on the season.

Miami Heat

Miami fans and bettors likely won’t be getting their hopes up, but things could be improving for the Heat from a personnel perspective. There’s an outside chance superstar forward Jimmy Butler might return Thursday night; he has been sidelined since Jan. 9 due to COVID-19 protocols. And sharp-shooting guard Tyler Herro might also return to action after missing Miami’s previous two games.
