Each team is currently perched atop its respective conference. While it’s early to start brandishing terms like “Finals preview” suffice it to say this is one of the year’s marquee matchups.

The Celtics are deemed -1.5 favourites on the NBA odds, with the O/U set at 231 points.

Celtics vs. Suns NBA Betting Odds

Pre-2020 Boston-Phoenix games are somewhat less interesting to consider given how Chris Paul’s arrival in Arizona for the start of the 2020-2021 campaign radically changed the club’s fortunes. Prior to that, playoff appearances were akin to finding water in the desert.

The spoils have been split over the four most recent contests. Of note, no road team has won a game over the past two years. Another curious stat, especially in today’s high-flying NBA, is that the loser has been held to under 100 points in three of those contests.

Even though 16-9 against the spread doesn’t glow as brightly as 20-5 (win-loss), Joe Mazzulla’s side has been a dependable bet this season. It isn’t as if their success rests primarily on stellar play at home. A 9-3 record away from TD Garden indicates road warrior prowess, not to mention 7-5 ATS.

Phoenix’s grip on first place in the West remains slim, yet they haven’t relinquished. 16-8 on the season has translated to 14-10 against the spread. Playing in front of their fans has produced smiles all around. Twelve wins versus two losses is a splendid record that makes fans happy. 9-5 ATS keeps betters rather content as well.

Boston Celtics

The bitter defeat at home to arch-rivals Miami on Friday night already feels like a distant memory. Such is the positivity that abounds this Celtics outfit. The Brooklyn Nets were the victims of Boston fury on Sunday evening, with Joe Mazzulla’s squad always looking like the better team on the hardwood floor, mostly cruising to a 103-92 victory.

A quick turnaround saw the team head north of the border on Monday to face annual playoff contenders the Raptors. Toronto came out with purpose, taking a six-point lead into halftime. Scottie Barnes and O.G. Anunoby gave Boston’s defence some difficulty for a while, but without any significant big-man presence to tussle with, Jayson Tatum (31 points) eventually got going in the key. So too did Luke Kornet (11 points), the recipient of many passes inside that he gladly took to the hoop off the glass or via dunks. Final: 116-110 for Boston.

Phoenix Suns

The Suns should be credited for a couple of things this season. The first and most obvious one is holding the fort during Chris Paul’s extended absence due to a heel injury. Monty Williams has refused to let his men become sluggish, complacent, or any less dynamic just because the man they thought would lead the organization to the promised land is temporarily gone. Second, other players are proving their worth to the team.

SF Mikal Bridges has been dependable with 51% shooting and 16.0 points per game. Devin Booker is a top ten player in points per game (28) and collectively the team is 6th best in points allowed per game. It didn’t show on Monday in Dallas against the Mavericks which ended in a 130-111 pounding. Playing at home, the need to put a cushion between them and their Western Conference pursuers, and a strong test like Boston should serve as motivation.
