The Eastern Conference-leading Boston Celtics visit the Raptors on Monday night but might be without a key player. Thus, Toronto is a short opening favourite on the NBA odds.

Celtics vs. Raptors NBA Betting Odds

Monday is the first of four regular-season meetings between the clubs. They split four last year. Pascal Siakam (missed one game) averaged 22.0 points in the series, Scottie Barnes 19.3 points, and Fred VanVleet 17.0 points and 5.3 assists. Jayson Tatum averaged 16.0 points (quite low for him), 8.0 rebounds and 7.0 assists for Boston. Marcus Smart 15.5 points, and Jaylen Brown just 12.5.

A lot of people thought Boston might take a step back this season with coach Ime Udoka suspended for the year for an inappropriate relationship with another team employee. Boston was willing to let him walk to become the next head coach of the Nets, but Brooklyn got so much negative blowback that the Nets reversed course and changed their minds. Former assistant Joe Mazzulla is the current coach and with Boston playing so well, it’s hard to imagine that he doesn’t get the full-time gig. There’s just no way the team can bring Udoka back now.

Boston has covered its past nine as the road team in this series. The under is 11-5 in the past 16.

Boston Celtics

It’s the second of a back-to-back for Boston as it won 103-92 in Brooklyn on Sunday to snap the Nets’ four-game winning streak. Jaylen Brown had 34 points and 10 rebounds, and Jayson Tatum added 29 points and 11 boards. Tatum is a +170 second-favourite behind the Mavs’ Luka Doncic (+165) to win his first MVP Award. Tatum is fifth in the league in scoring at 30.7 ppg. Brown has been great, too, and he and Tatum are among the best duos in the league. Guard and reigning NBA Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Smart was out Sunday with a left hip contusion and is in question for this one. The Celtics are 4-1 ATS in their past five games.

Toronto Raptors

Toronto snapped a two-game skid with a 121-108 win over a bad Orlando team on Saturday. O.G. Anunoby matched his season high with 32 points, and Pascal Siakam had 26 points and 10 rebounds. It’s the first time in his career that Anunoby has had multiple 30-point games in a season. Scottie Barnes added 17 points and 14 rebounds. Toronto shot a season-best .560, making 47 of 84 attempts. Otto Porter Jr. didn’t play due to a toe injury and won’t here. Juancho Hernangomez sprained his ankle in the first half and is doubtful. The Raptors lead the NBA in points off turnovers (22.2) and are outscoring opponents 510-406 (+104) in that category. The Dinos are 4-1 ATS in their past five at home.
