The Boston Celtics are Detroit Pistons are at opposite sides of the Eastern Conference, but both are in back-to-back situations when they clash Saturday evening. The 9-3 Celtics defeated Denver 131-112 last night to make it five straight victories for Boston. Detroit was on the road at New York yesterday, falling 121-112 without Cade Cunningham in their lineup. Cunningham’s absence was his first missed game this season as he deals with shin soreness. The loss dropped Detroit to 3-10, tied for the worst record in the East.

Tip-off at Little Caesars Arena gets going at 7 p.m. EST, with Boston a 9.5-point favourite on the road and the total listed at 224 on the NBA odds.

Celtics vs. Pistons NBA Betting Odds

Despite losing 10 of their first 13 games Detroit is actually a respectable 3-3 on home court this season, and 3-2-1 against the spread. The Celtics haven’t started too hot ATS on the road, covering in two of their six road games. Head-to-head Detroit’s covered in eight of their nine last nine meetings with Boston too, so the trends say to take the points.

The Celtics are right at the top of the league with 118.7 points per game, and the Pistons are right at the bottom when it comes to defence — they rank fourth-worst by allowing 118.3 points per outing. The over is also 4-1 in the last five Celtics–Pistons clashes. These teams played last Wednesday, with Boston coming out on top 128-112.

Boston Celtics

The Celtics shot extremely strong from the field last evening, cashing 50 of their 90 field goal attempts. The team made 16 threes, shooting 43.2 per cent from the arc with centre Al Horford the hot hand with six of eight shooting from deep. Jayson Tatum led all players with 34 points, achieving the game-high in scoring on 21 field goal attempts.

Boston’s not only a top-five scoring team but a top-three team in all of field goal, three-point, and free throw percentage. Tatum’s now up to 31.2 points per game, while Jaylen Brown is right behind him at 25.4 points per night to make up one of the league’s best one-two tandems.

Detroit Pistons

A 68-point first half from New York was too much to overcome for Detroit, as the Pistons allowed at least 110 points for the 11th time in their 113 games. They’ve allowed 120 points in back-to-back outings too, which includes that loss to Boston Wednesday.

Without Cunningham, Detroit relied way more on their bench with five bench players reaching 15 minutes of court time. Veteran guard Alec Burks scored 17 points off the bench and played 25 minutes in his season debut. Bojan Bogdanovic led the team with 25 points, going nine for 15 from the field but missed all five three-point attempts.
