Marcus Smart’s return helped fuel the Boston Celtics to a 92-87 win over the Milwaukee Bucks in Game 5. Now they will have an opportunity to put the Bucks away and book their spot in the second round with one more win on Thursday night. It won’t be easy after the home teams won each of the first five games in this series.

NBA Point Spread and Betting Analysis

If there is one thing for Milwaukee to rally around heading in to Game 6, it’s the fact that this team has been excellent at home dating back to the regular season. The Bucks went 27-16 at the BMO Harris Bradley Center during the season and won their first two playoff games. However, they are just 3-12-1 ATS in their last 16 home games versus a winning team.

As for Boston, they are 4-1 ATS in their last five against winning teams and 20-8 ATS in their last 28 overall.

Boston Celtics

Smart delivered nine points, five rebounds, four assists and three blocks in his first game since right thumb surgery sidelined him towards the end of the regular season. Boston will hope for a similar performance from him off the bench in Game 6 on the road. Meanwhile, Al Horford chipped in with 22 points and 14 rebounds. The rebounds were a big boost as the Celtics outrebounded the Bucks 50-37. In what turned out to be a five-point game, that was huge. The Celtics have had the edge on the boards in this series, which should eventually propel them to advance.

One area where the Celtics absolutely need to be better is defensively after they allowed the Bucks to hit an NBA-best 54-percent of their shots from the field in these playoffs. Milwaukee absolutely dominated from the field in Games 3 and 4. If they cool them off in this NBA matchup like they did in Game 5 – holding them to 36.8% – then they’ll be in great shape.

Milwaukee Bucks

The Bucks can rally around the fact that they were able to close the gap and nearly upset Boston in Game 5 as a rallying point heading into Game 6. Milwaukee came back from down 16 to close the game to four points with just 7:33 left on the clock but couldn’t complete the comeback. If they can avoid an early deficit in this game, they should have a much better chance to win.

Meanwhile, it should also help that the home team has won each of the first five games in this series. Giannis Antetokounmpo has shown an ability to dominate in stretches but needs a little more help to keep the Bucks alive in Game 6. The onus will fall on Khris Middleton and Eric Bledsoe to be better from the field. That tandem went just 14-of-36 from the field in Game 5. When they’re on the Bucks have had easy wins. When they’re not in it, the Bucks have either been blown out or lost. The supporting cast has to be there to help The Greek Freak in Game 6.
