Kevin Love, Cavs, 2019

The Cavs are trying to get by with All-Star power forward Kevin Love. Cleveland is shopping the underperforming veteran, but there isn’t much of a market for Love.

The most successful year and decade for the Toronto Raptor franchise comes to a close when the Dinos host the Cleveland Cavaliers on New Year’s Eve. The Raptors continue to claw away at their schedule with a depleted lineup. The Cavs catch the Dinos at an opportune moment and while they enjoy a hot ATS streak.

NBA Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Cleveland crosses the border with an impressive 4-0 mark against the spread over its last four games. The club has snatched four of its 10 wins on the season in the last two weeks. The Cavs are 4-1 straight up since they lost at Toronto on December 16th.

The Cavaliers are still among the worst teams in the Association at 10-22. They’re 4-12 away from Cleveland this season and 7-9 against the spread as road underdogs.

The squad is among the lowest scoring sides in the NBA at 104.6 points per game. Cleveland carries a 15-17 Over/Under record into Tuesday’s tilt. An improvement in the scoring department is part of the reason for the better results recently. The Cavs are averaging 110.5 points per game over their last eight outings on the hardwood.

Toronto enters this matchup on the heels of a home loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday. The Raps are 22-11 (19-14 ATS) on the season, but 3-3 SU and ATS since Pascal Siakam, Marc Gasol and Norman Powell all caught the injury bug.

The Raps are 3-7 against the number in their last 10 games against the Cavs and 2-3 ATS since LeBron James left for Hollywood. The Over is 5-1 in the last six meetings between these two sides.

Cleveland Cavaliers

The Cavs are trying to get by with All-Star power forward Kevin Love. Cleveland is shopping the underperforming veteran to would-be interested teams in the league, but there isn’t much of a market for Love.

He was on a three game hot streak (23.7 points, 9.3 rebounds) before he picked up a hip injury. He missed the Cavs’ last game and he’s listed as questionable to suit up against Toronto.

Toronto Raptors

There’s no question who the two most important players are on the Raptors’ active roster right now. Kyle Lowry and Fred VanVleet are the two best shot creators and distributors. The problem is Toronto doesn’t look great when both players are on the floor at the same time.

The Raptors own a -2.4 net rating with both Lowry and VanVleet on the court. A good chunk of those 449 minutes the pair have played together have come with Siakam out. That likely exaggerates the numbers. Still, it’s something for Nick Nurse to keep in mind.
