New York’s won three straight games to get to 33-42 on the season and 4.5 games out of the final play-in spot with seven games remaining.

Monday’s the second of a back-to-back for the Knicks as they are back from Detroit after winning 104-102 on Sunday. For Chicago, Monday’s the first of a back-to-back for them that ends in Washington tomorrow night. The Bulls are 43-31 on the season and in fifth in the East.

Tip-off at Madison Square Garden is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. EDT with the Bulls a 4.5-point favourite and the over-under at 224 on the NBA odds.

Monday’s bout features two clubs in opposite directions when it comes to covering the spread. Chicago’s been abysmal as lately, with just three covers in their last 13 games, and one in their last 10 road games. New York’s covered in nine of their last 13 outings, but also in one of their last nine at home.

The under is 8-2 in Chicago’s last 10 games and 7-0 in their last seven versus Eastern opponents. It’s 5-1 in the last six Bulls–Knicks games too, and 2-1 in their three meetings this season. The Bulls are 2-1 versus the Knicks this season last winning 119-115 on December 2.

Chicago Bulls

The Bulls snapped a mini losing streak when they last took the court in a 98-94 victory over Cleveland on Saturday. The win was Chicago’s first in three games, and second in their last seven as they’ve slid down and out of the race for first in the East.

Guard Zach LaVine led the Bulls with 25 points, while DeMar DeRozan collected 20, as both shot eight-for-17 from the field. Alex Caruso came just short of his first career triple-double with 10 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists in the win. The win also kept Chicago above Cleveland in the standings.

New York Knicks

Two big plays from guard Alec Burks got New York the win Sunday: the game-winning three-pointer and then a steal to end the contest. Burks finished with 18 points while attempting only six shots from the field. RJ Barrett led the club with 21 points and nine rebounds, while Julius Randle added 20 points as both players went seven-for-18 from the field.

Barrett’s scored at least 20 in four of his last five showings and is averaging nearly 25 a game in March. With 19.9 points per game on the season, Barrett is now right behind Randle (20.3) for the team lead in scoring. But Randle’s also had an impressive month with 24.4 points per game.
