Injuries and COVID protocols have been holding the Milwaukee Bucks back from reaching their potential so far this season. The defending champs enter Sunday’s action with a 6-7 record and after a close win in their latest game. It was a tight overtime contest against the Boston Celtics as they squeaked out a 122-113 win.

Now they face the disappointing Atlanta Hawks, who have struggled mightily to start the year and are coming off a nine-point loss to the Denver Nuggets. As of right now they have lost six straight games and hope to avoid falling down a seventh. Will they be able to break out here or will the Bucks send them spiralling further downwards?

Bucks vs. Hawks NBA Betting Odds

Milwaukee has been strong when playing on the road this season, they are 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games under these circumstances and additionally are 9-4 ATS in their past 13 contests when coming into the matchup with an ATS loss in the prior outing. The under has been cashing out quite a lot lately for Milwaukee, doing so in eight of their last ten matchups overall.

On the other hand, the Hawks have been playing great basketball on Sundays, with a 9-1 ATS record in their past 10 games on that day of the week. Unfortunately, Atlanta is a measly 1-5 ATS in their past six contests when coming into the game on just one day of rest. They are also winless against the spread in their last six games overall to make matters worse for them.

Milwaukee Bucks

Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton both missed the team’s latest contest against the Celtics and are questionable for this one. Assuming each of them don’t make it into the court, all of the scoring responsibilities would fall upon the shoulders of Grayson Allen, Jrue Holiday and Bobby Portis.

Their bench has been relatively weak the entire season but Allen has been a significant bright spot. He has averaged 15.8 points per game and just recently hit a few huge clutch shots to send the match into overtime. Allen and other role players will have to keep overachieving if the Bucks are to be competitive here.

Atlanta Hawks

The Hawks have been pretty good offensively but they are a train wreck on the defensive side of the court. They are the second-worst defense in the entire league right now and the only team below them are the New Orleans Pelicans, who own the worst record in the league. They have been trying to outscore opponents but they aren’t shooting well enough to get that job done.

They will need a huge performance from their leader Trae Young, who already averages 24.5 points and 9.2 assists per game. John Collins is also going to have to step up here, as he has been the team’s second option offensively for most of the year. As long as their defensive struggles continues, though, the depleted Bucks will have a shot here.
