Philadelphia 76ers vs. Toronto Raptors Prediction, NBA Odds

Payton Matthews | Updated Mar 31, 2024

The Raptors probably can’t wait for March to end as it has been one of the worst months in franchise history and they close it Sunday against visiting Philadelphia.

76ers vs. Raptors NBA Betting Odds

Toronto has just one victory in March: 111-106 over Charlotte on March 3. I’m not sure I see another realistic win for the Dinos until April 7 at home vs. Washington.

Philadelphia currently sits eighth in the Eastern Conference, which would mean the play-in tournament. The Sixers would not be anywhere close to that low in the East if not for reigning league MVP Joel Embiid having been out since Jan. 30 with a knee injury that required surgery. Still not clear if he will be back by the end of the regular season, although Coach Nick Nurse said this week he thought it would happen. Embiid is on the road trip. Philly perhaps could get as far as the East Finals depending on the bracket if Embiid is healthy but isn’t winning a round if he’s not (if it even advances past the play-in).  Philadelphia is 26-8 this season when Embiid plays and 13-27 when he doesn’t.

The Sixers look for the four-game season sweep and have won six straight in the series. The teams haven’t played since late December so Embiid saw action in all three, averaging 31.0 points, 10.7 rebounds and 8.0 assists. Tyrese Maxey also played in all three and averaged 28.3 points and 7.0 assists. Maxey was an All-Star this season and is the heavy favourite for NBA Most Improved Player.

Toronto still leads all-time 62-48 and 34-20 as the home team.

Philadelphia 76ers

The Sixers lost their third game in a row Friday, 117-114 in Cleveland despite one of the best games of the season from point guard and former Raptor Kyle Lowry, who had 23 points and six assists. Lowry is a Philly native (starred at Villanova) who had been traded from Miami to Charlotte and then bought out by the Hornets, and he signed with his hometown club. The 23 points were by far his most since joining Philadelphia. Lowry now has 235 career games with at least 20 points and five assists, which ranks 17th among active NBA guys. Tyrese Maxey had 16 points and a career-high-tying 11 assists. He has seven games this season with at least 15 points and 10 helpers. In addition to Joel Embiid remaining out injured, the Sixers are without Robert Covington and De’Anthony Melton. Philly is 1-6 in its past seven away.

Toronto Raptors

At this point with so many guys out injured or for other reasons (Jontay Porter), it might be easier to tell you who might play today for Toronto, which has lost 12 in a row after an embarrassing 145-101 home defeat to the Knicks on Wednesday – at least the Dinos are well-rested. RJ Barrett is questionable, which is an upgrade. He has missed eight in a row for personal reasons and likely would be on a minutes limit if he does play. Rookie Gradey Dick was a bright spot against New York with a career-high 23 points, although the Raptors were outscored by 26 points with him on the court. Gary Trent Jr. had 18 points, his 10th straight game scoring at least 15. Trent is averaging 21.7 points per game in that span. Toronto is 0-9 ATS in its past nine at home.
