Both the 76ers and Nets were expected to be in the mix for the Conference title this season - yet only one of them is playing like a contender as they face off Thursday.

The 76ers own the best record in the NBA and are riding a five-game winning streak into their marquee matchup with a Nets team that has stumbled to a .500 record and will be without superstar Kevin Durant on Thursday.

NBA Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The absence of Durant has had a significant impact on the spread for this game, with the 76ers coming in as slight favourites. And the visitors have the support of the betting public, with 60 percent of the Sports Interaction wagers coming in on the 76ers. Philadelphia has successfully covered four of its previous five games, and is an impressive 7-1 in the last eight meetings between the teams. The Nets have just one cover over their previous six outings.

The consensus is much stronger when it comes to the total play – and it might surprise you to see that 84 percent of Sports Interaction bettors are siding with the Under on the total of 226. Durant’s absence plays a role, for sure – as does the fact that Thursday marks the second night of a back-to-back for the 76ers. That said, the 76ers are an incredible 39-19-1 O/U in their previous 59 games when playing the back end of a back-to-back.

Philadelphia 76ers

Those considering Sixers player props might want to tread lightly. There’s no way of knowing how Doc Rivers will distribute the playing time after four starters racked up 36+ minutes in Wednesday’s 141-136 win over Washington. That said, neither Joel Embiid nor Ben Simmons saw significant statistical drop-offs in the six games they played last season on zero days of rest, with both players actually averaging above their season point totals in those games.

Brooklyn Nets

The Nets didn’t need Durant last time out as they rolled to a 130-96 triumph over Utah in the first of what will likely be a four-game absence for their superstar small forward, who is in quarantine due to COVID-19 exposure. And it’s no secret how the Brooklyn offence will run in his absence: Guards Kyrie Irving and Caris LeVert took 37 of the team’s 93 shot attempts in the one-sided win, while no other player took more than nine shots.
