The Philadelphia 76ers and the Los Angeles Lakers will meet for the second time this season on Thursday, although this game is going to be entirely different compared to their first matchup. Despite losing Joel Embiid due to injury, the 76ers are on a tear lately. They have won 11 of their last 13 matchups. Meanwhile, the Lakers are also without two of their stars, but haven’t had the same luck. They’ve lost three straight. Will the 76ers continue their dominance or will the Lakers finally snap out of their losing streak?

NBA Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The 76ers are 6-1-1 against the spread in their past eight games when coming off of a straight up win in their previous game. They have a chance to extend that streak in this one, as this will be a battle between two injury riddled teams.

The Lakers are only 3-8 ATS in their last 11 matchups against Philadelphia and it’s not looking good for them. It doesn’t bode well for them this game as they’ll be without LeBron James and Anthony Davis and have dropped three straight games.

Philadelphia 76ers

The 76ers have arguably been the best team in the Eastern Conference this season, boasting a 31-13 record, which is good enough for first place in the standings. They’ve won 11 of their last 13 and it makes it’s even more impressive that they have been winning without the leading MVP on their roster, Embiid. He was averaging 29.9 points, 11.5 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game while leading the team in each of those categories. Ben Simmons and Tobias Harris have been a great duo in the starting lineup and have caused problems for opposing teams. Shake Milton has also provided a spark, putting up 13.8 points per game. Philadelphia will be without Seth Curry as well, so they will need other role players to step up. Also, keep an eye on the trade deadline news as the 76ers are rumoured to be interested in a number of players.

Los Angeles Lakers

The Lakers can’t seem to win a basketball game without both LeBron and AD. Of course, that was mostly to be expected as those two players lead the team in every major statistical category. For now, they’re relying on the likes of Kyle Kuzma, who has performed pretty well since being thrust into the starting lineup. He posted a double-double in his last game, though he will need to do better than his 12.1 points per game average with so much scoring missing. Dennis Schroder and Montrezl Harrell have also been asked to step up and they have delivered, both playing like solid starters.

The challenge is, this is a star-based league and L.A. is missing their two biggest stars. Their depth players have been forced into primetime roles and while they have talent to get it done, it really thins out their second unit. Against a deep team like Philadelphia, those issues are likely to be evident.
