Hard Rock Launches First ‘Rocksino’ Casino in Ohio

Classic rock played out over a loud speaker to a crowd gathered on a chilly afternoon to see launch of the Hard Rock Rocksino Northfield Park in Northfield Ohio. Northfield Park owner Brock Milstein was on hand for the big opening. “Tonight is about Northeast Ohio and our hometown,” Milstein told the crowd. “This infrastructure, these jobs and these entertainment dollars will stay in Ohio where they belong.” Milstein, along with Rocksino president Jon Lucas, Hard Rock International Chairman Jim Allen, and Cleveland Browns quarterback legend Bernie Kosar symbolically opened the Rocksino by smashing acoustic guitars.

VIPs were the first to be allowed into the Rocksino, which features games, a Center Bar, a Hard Rock Café, and several other restaurants including Bernie Kosar’s Wood-Fired Grill. The new venue also features 110 pieces of music memorabilia, including over sixty pieces of clothing worn by famous performers. Upon entering the building, the first thing visitors see are two dresses, one worn by Diana Ross, the other by Bette Midler.

The Rocksino gaming floor is set amid the music artifacts. Over 2200 video slot machines are available, from pennies up to high stakes machines. There is also an outdoor gaming area where smoking is allowed.

Rocksino president Jon Lucas said “We feel like we’ve created something significant that people haven’t seen in this region. Hopefully when people come in they will look and say ‘Wow.’” At 5:30 pm the crowd entered the venue with cheers and smiles. The opening night act was a sold out show by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts at the Hard Rock Live stage. The second show lined up for December 27th is Night Ranger, which is also on pace to sell out.

The Rocksino has created 750 jobs, plus the 1500 jobs for construction workers while the building was going up. “We’ve staffed for a full house this week,” Lucas commented. “Based on the buzz we’ve seen, we expect a great response and for interest to continue.”
