College Basketball Odds makers have take note; the Golden Eagles are here to stay

The Marquette Golden Eagles have made it into the NCAA Tournament in each of its first three seasons in the Big East. An impressive feat in one of the toughest conferences in the country. This year, making the Tournament will not be enough to satisfy the Golden Eagles. They want to advance.

With all five starters and their top seven players from last season returning, advancing past the first round is a reasonable goal. This team is not green. The Golden Eagles are an experienced team who has played together for the last couple seasons. And considering that they come out of the Big East, you know they are battle tested.

Leading the way for Marquette once again is the triple threat of talented junior guards Dominic James, Jerel McNeal, and Wesley Matthews. After an All Big East first team season in 2007, James mulled over entering the NBA draft but in the end decided there was unfinished business to take care of with Marquette. While that trio may receive most of the ink from the press, Marquette’s biggest strength is their depth. The Golden Eagles get regular contributions from all five starters and have a deep bench. No matter what line up Marquette puts on the floor, they are going to be competitive.

As most NCAA basketball over/under bettors know, it’s defense first for Tom Crean’s Golden Eagles. They wear opponents down and force them into turnovers.

With an experienced team, strong defense, and a deep bench the Marquette Golden Eagles have the tools to make some noise in this year’s Tournament. If they can put it all together and combine that with a little luck, a repeat of 2003 is not out of the question.
