Phil Ivey Makes $5 Million WSOP Prop Bet

Considered by many to be the world’s greatest poker player, Phil Ivey has made a prop bet that shows just how much money and confidence he has. Ivey, who has won seven World Series of Poker bracelets and one World Poker Tour, has made a $5,000,000 prop bet with fellow poker pro Howard Lederer that he can bring home two more bracelets over the course of the next two WSOPs, making this the biggest known prop bet in poker history.

For his part, Lederer, known as “the Poker Professor” due to his remarkable analytical skills, is taking on quite a gamble. Perhaps Lederer reasoned that with the WSOP’s ever-increasing field, the probability of Ivey earning two more bracelets was a bet worth making. However, with Ivey expected to enter at least 80 WSOP tournaments over the next two years, his odds of earning additional WSOP wrist hardware might be a piece of cake for the 33-year-old poker superstar. Lest we forget, although the field at the Main Event is large, Ivey will also be participating in smaller tournaments, where his shot of winning will be increased exponentially.

With the WSOP kicking off next month, poker forums are lighting up over this crazy prop bet, because really, when you’ve got $5 million to bet with, you officially have way too much money (though it should be noted Ivey is involved in children’s literacy projects and programs to feed the homeless).

While the jury is still out on where the majority of poker fans would put their money, there are at least two people out there who you can bet will be expecting Ivey to take down this prop bet without breaking a sweat. Ivey has found groupies in an elderly couple who, for the past decade, have traveled to many of his events to cheer him on.

“We’ve been coming out here for 10 or 11 years. We always come out for two weeks to support him,” they told Pokerlistings.

Think you have what it takes to compete with Ivey, who is currently listed as first in the world among all-time money winners, at the WSOP? Perhaps you will be the one to upset his prop bet with Lederer. Hey, and maybe if you play your cards right (pardon the pun), you too can earn yourself a couple of elderly groupies!
