The World Poker Tour has announced its first tournament in the UK. Titled the WPT London Poker Classic, the tournament is scheduled to run from August 30 – September 5 and take place at the Palm Beach Casino at the 5-star May Fair Hotel, located in London’s swanky West End.
“The Palm Beach Casino is delighted to welcome the World Poker Tour 2010 in London,” Genting Casinos London Poker Manager Simon Tomsett said. “We anticipate players from all over the world, playing for the prestigious title.”
The £5,300 main event caps at 400 players and there are live satellites both live and online, with a large portion of the field expected to be qualifiers.
“London is a great poker destination and has always been a major target in our ongoing expansion,” said WPT President Adam Pliska. “We’re thrilled to have found amazing partners in The Palm Beach Casino, Genting UK and The May Fair Hotel London. This is sure to be a highly anticipated WPT event on the international schedule.”
The winner of the WPT London Poker Classic will receive the first place cash prize, a WPT title, WPT bracelet and a seat to play in the 2011 WPT Championship in Las Vegas.
The WPT’s expansion to the UK follows the World Series of Poker, which tapped into the Euopean maket with the WSOP Europe in London back in the fall of 2007. Want to earn a seat at the WSOP?
