The ever-evolving poker world takes no prisoners and when it comes to the 2012 Aussie Millions, the top 10 chip leaders are reeling as only 26 players remain in the field entering Day 4… with poker pro Phil Ivey in sixth place.
After Ivey declined to play in the 2011 WSOP, he has been very low-pro on the poker scene, having only participated in the Macau cash games and the APPT Macau main event.
The 10,000 Aussie Millions Main Event held three starting days and on the third day, Ivey began to make his Seabiscuit-like moves for the 1.6 million top prize.
At the end of Day 2, Ivey was in second place, with the bubble on the brink of bursting. On Day 3, the field of 75 was quickly whittled down to a mere 26 and by EOD Ivey had moved to sixth place. If Ivey can put a rabbit out of his hat on Day 4, a win would be Ivey’s largest poker tournament cash of his career.
However, Ivey faces the force of chip leader Matthew Turk. For Turk, this would be a huge win, since his previous best live cash is for $3,742 for a third-place finish in 2010. The action resumes late Thursday night on the east coast.
Here are all the current standings:
- Matthew Turk: 2,675,000
- Tim O’Shea: 1,376,000

- Bjorn Li: 1,222,000
- Yann Dion: 1,156,000

- Daniel Idema: 1,033,000
- Minh Nguyen: 992,000
- Borge Dypvik: 882,000
