Pateychuk Hot Streak Continues with WPT Prague Win

What are most 22-year-old Russian men doing with their lives? Well I’m not sure but I seriously doubt that many of them made $2 million in the last five months, which is exactly what Andrey Pateychuk has done with his most recent cash with a first place finish at the WPT Prague for €468,200.

Pateychuck’s hot streak really got rolling when he finished 15th at the World Series of Poker Main Event cashing for $478,174. Then, just over a month ago, he went on to win the EPT San Remo Main Event, walking away with $937.530.

The deck has been extremely kind to Pateychuk in the final crucial stages of his last two big wins. In San Remo Pateychuk went heads-up against DBulgarian, Dimitar Danchev and found himself in trouble when, after a couple hours of play, they were both about equal in chips. The critical hand started with Danchev opening from the button making it 325,000 and PAteychuck three-betting it to 900,000 and Danchev calling. The flop came 2h-4s-9s and Pateychuck bet out 1,200,000 while Danchev raised it to 2,600,000. Pateychuk pushed all-in and Danchev made the call with Ts-9c. Pateychuk showed a very sorry looking 7s-6c and was on the verge of going home when a couple miracles showed up in the form of an 8h and a 5h for a straight, all but sending Danchev home. A few hands later it was over.

This time, at the WPT Prague, Pateychuk found himself crippled in a heads-up situation against Adria Balaguer as Belaguer held 15.6 million in chips to Pateychuk’s 1.5 million. Pateychuk shoved pre-flop with K-J off-suit and got called by Balaguer with 10-9 off-suit. The better hand held and Pateychuk found himself on the cusp of a very good run of cards including the very next hand which saw him double up again with A-K against A-Q. From there Pateychuk continued to chip away until Balaguer found himself down to 4 million in chips. Pateychuk raised pre-flop to 600,000 and Balaguer shoved for his last 4 million. Pateychuk made the call and tabled Ah-5s, a serious dog to Balaguer’s pocket queens. Doing it the hard way, Pateychuk found a few extra outs on the flop with a 4. Then another miracle straight brought it home for him as a 3 fell on the turn and a 2 on the river. A tough beat to take, Balaguer will have to console himself with the $320,381 he won for second place.

This latest win puts Pateychuk just a WSOP bracelet away from becoming one of the few poker players to win the “Triple Crown” of poker by holding EPT, WPT and WSOP titles. Will his heater continue into next year’s WSOP? Or will he take down another big cash at the upcoming Aussie Millions?
