Talk about a hot streak! Dwyte Pilgrim may be emerging as a force to be reckoned thanks to a recent win in a $340 tournament at Harrah’s Rincon. Taking first place ties him with poker great Chris “Jesus” Ferguson for having won a total of three World Series of Poker Circuit rings.

Only playing tournament poker for 15 months, Pilgrim has been on a crazy heater having cashed a total of 18 times, with ten of those cashes at final tables and three of them ending in wins. Pilgrim’s first tournament victory occurred just a year ago at the Caesars Atlantic City Circuit Event when he cashed for $83,955. Less than a month later, he earned his second big win at the Harrah’s Rincon Main Event near San Diego, California, scoring a cool $125,775 plus a $10,000 seat into the WSOP Main Event. Pilgrim was named the “unofficial” WSOP Circuit Player of the Year in May 2009.

This weekend, Pilgrim won $13,392 in Event #8 and although it wasn’t the windfall he’s used to, the win tied him with Ferguson for the second-most victories in the WSOPC’s six-year history right behind Men Nguyen and Mark Smith who each have four WSOPC rings.

In an interview with Nolan Dalla, Pilgrim said, “For the past eight months, I’ve been playing some good poker. As of recently, I’ve been catching fire. I’m just trying to stay consistent. I always say I’m one of the best players; I’m just not promoted right. I’m working my way all the way to the top.”

Catching fire is right as Pilgrim is currently ranked fifth in the world on Card Player’s Player of the Year rankings with 2,592 points and that’s without the addition of the points from his latest win. Although Pilgrim’s run has lasted 15 months, he did have a brief drought through August of last year, unfortunately that was during the WSOP itself. Eyes will definitely be on Pilgrim at this year’s WSOP as we all watch to see if his streak can be maintained at the tournament of all tournaments.
