It must be tough being a politician on the campaign trail. As soon as you let yourself speak the way you might at home or at a normal office, you are quickly reminded that politicians get held to a different standard. As we reported previously, Mitt Romney offered a bet of $10,000 to Rick Perry during a debate. The point of contention was whether or not Romney had revised his book, No Apology, in later editions removing a section that supported individual health insurance mandates.
Perry, remembering that he was a politician debating on TV, wisely retorted that he was not in the business of betting. While that is extremely uncool to us at Sports Interaction News, we understand it given the circumstances.
But the media ran with it and have made a big deal out of it which has proven too juicy for Democrat opponents to not take advantage of. Their most recent jibe involved them sending a box filled with $10,000 in fake poker chips to Romney’s Las Vegas campaign office. The box came lined with the fake $10,000 bills seen above.
Of the prank, Zach Hudson, spokesman for the state Democratic party said, “While $10,000 may not be much to Mitt Romney, we wanted to make sure he could easily place a bet the size of two months salary for the average Nevada household the next time he was in town.”
A clear reference to the Democrats angle of painting Romney as being out of touch with the average American. A message echoed last Wednesday during Romney’s fundraiser in New York when they hired a plan to fly overhead with a large banner that read, “Bet you 10k Romney’s Out of Touch.”
But all this denigrating of the betting man is a little off-putting. In fact, the only way to truly make a stand against it, is to make a bet on it. Check out our Presidential Election Odds where we have Romney at +100 to win the Republican candidacy.
