WSOP talk already? That’s right, it’s not even close to that time of year yet, like Christmas, the WSOP has a tendency to get its legs early. The annual WSOP really tends to start rolling with the official release of the WSOP schedule and its attendant parameters and list of what’s changed and what hasn’t. Said WSOP schedule was just released so let’s get into the meat of it, shall we?
The official 2011 WSOP launch date is Tuesday, May 31 which will see the casino employees get things swinging, followed by the first open bracelet tournament, Event #2. A new addition to the WSOP roster Event #2 is the $25,000 Heads-up No-Limit Holdem Championship. This eye-catching addition will have a capped field of 256 players so if you’re sitting on $25K and some serious heads-up skills, be sure to register for this one early as it’s likely to fill up and generate a juice prize pool of almost $6.4 million.
If you’re looking to play in the donkament of all donkaments, the $1,000 No-Limit Holdem Event #8 has historically packed in the players for massive fields in excess of 6,000 players. In anticipation of another massive tourney the WSOP has assigned two starting days for Event 8 on June 4 and 5.
The Big Dance, a.k.a. Event #42, a.k.a., the Main Event will see its own Day 1A begin on July 7 and will run until the November Nine are established on July 19. As usual, WSOP final table action will pause and then get played out on November 5 – 7 and aired on ESPN with a tight turnaround for November 8.
A few basic changes are also being implemented this year, the most noteworthy being that there will no longer be any all-nighters. Except for the Main Event, all tournaments will be stopped for the night no matter what after no more than 10 levels.
Also, late registration for bracelet events will be extended from two levels of play to four. The Main Event won’t change however, as it will still allow registration up until just two levels of play.
