So their five-year marriage deal is officially up – and Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise are heading for divorce court.

The former Dawson’s Creek star controversially married Tom Cruise after he jumped on Oprah’s couch in a frenzied proclamation of his love for her. I know. It was sinful! When they announced their engagement, skeptics claimed that Holmes was marrying Cruise in a 5-year publicity deal to squash rumors of Cruise’s alledged homosexuality. The rumored “deal” was five years and one child. Thus, Cruise, 49, married Holmes, 33, in an Italian castle in November 2006 and the couple have one child together, six-year-old, Suri. Almost six years later, they announced their split.

“This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family,” says Holmes’s attorney Jonathan Wolfe. “Katie’s primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter’s best interest.”

Tom and Katie’s romance was announced in 2006, after she split with actor Chris Klein. Tom had been four years divorced from Nicole Kidman, with whom he shares two adopted children, and had recently split from actress Penelope Cruz.
No further information or reason for the split has been given at this time. However, we’re sure the Internets will blow up with speculation and male masseuses stepping forward with allegations of something or another.
