What began as a cattle call for 25 women looking for true love and 15 minutes of fame hit a crescendo tonight in what host Chris Harrison dubbed as one of the most shocking twists in Bachelor history. Rozlyn Papa, the 28-year-old model who scored a rose on the group date as well as a make-out session with the hunk of pilot man meat known as Jake the Bachelor, was sent packing after having an “inappropriate relationship” with a staffer on the show.
At the pre rose ceremony cocktail party Chris Harrison unexpectedly busted in and asked Rozlyn to step outside. The women all exchanged looks as Rozlyn left the room. And then Harrison dropped the following bomb: ”So, this is something that we’ve never had to deal with in the history of this show. I am very sorry that we have to have this conversation; it’s very awkward. I’m guessing you have some idea why I pulled you aside…” [dramatic pause] “…Rozlyn, you entered into an inappropriate relationship with one of…” [his voice cracks] ”…with one of our staffers. That staffer is no longer working with us. Okay?”
After more dramatic pauses, Chris said, “We feel because of what’s happened, it’s impossible for you to continue on this show. We feel that you need to leave tonight.”
Rozlyn did not seem taken aback by Harrison’s accusations and defended herself by saying, ”So you think that there’s no other girls here that felt for other people before they came on the show?”
When Chris explained that girls were free to have past relationships with other men, just not current relationships with crew members from the show, Rozlyn weakly offered, “I don’t think my personal life is really anybody’s business.”
A burly, bouncer-looking guy, on-hand to make sure she didn’t diddle any other staffers on her way out the door, swiftly escorted Rozlyn back to her room. The camera repeatedly panned to a dead rose in a vase nearby as Rozlyn packed her belongings, indicating that ABC’s producers know a thing or two about symbolism.
Meanwhile, Chris Harrison had to break the news to Jake Pavelka – who came on the show to end the stereotype of nice guys finishing last – that he had been cheated on by one of his 15 reality TV pseudo girlfriends.
Jake took the news hard, asking bitterly if he could get his rose back. Then, to capitalize on the drama, both Jake and Chris Harrison then went into the cocktail party to tell the women. Cue gasps, looks of horror, then smirks followed by feigned sorrow.
“She looked in my eyes and she told me that she’s here for me,” a despondent bachelor told the girls. ”I feel kind of deceived… I’m just trying to pick myself up here.”
However, Rozlyn is now fighting back – arguing that the show manipulated the situation for the sake of ratings. Although neither Chris Harrison nor Jake used the word “sex,” the women, who tore Rozlyn apart like a bunch of jackals, were filmed accusing Rozlyn of sleeping with the staff member. Rozlyn told Entertainment Tonight that she did not have sex with the show’s producer and that she has a 7-year-old son, who will be profoundly affected by the episode.
“I absolutely feel betrayed by the show. They want the ratings, and that’s what they’re getting,” Rozlyn said. “This seeps into my personal life. I have a 7-year-old little boy at home that I want to look up to me, and to have this blatant lie out there perpetuated by the show itself, it’s hurtful. It’s scary to think what my son will think of me.”
