Even though, by all accounts, Heejun Han stepped up his game on American Idol, earning a standing ovation from judges on the performance episode, last night he was sent packing.

Han, the show’s token funny man had been admonished on a prior episode for not taking his stint on American Idol seriously enough, and was even berated by judge Steven Tyler for “taking the piss” out of a Billy Joel song. However, on Wednesday’s performance episode, Heejun seemed to clean up his act, performing a beautiful (and serious) rendition of Leon Russell’s “A Song for You.”

However, on last night’s elimination episode, it was revealed that Heejun’s recovery efforts were too little, too late.

He tried to sing himself into a judges save, but with Jennifer Lopez tearing up during his song, it was obvious his fate had been sealed.

“Heejun, let the record show you knew this was coming yourself,” Tyler told him. “Unfortunately after talking, we’re going to have to let you go, man.”

Heejun seemed to take the news gracefully, however, when speaking to media he gave the impression that he may be harboring some resentment towards the show, saying that guest mentor Sean (Diddy) Combs was drunk during his training session.

“You do not wanna be drunk when you’re coming to American Idol session, OK?,” Han told “The Insider”. The Korean-American from Queens then shockingly said, “I was rooting for Jeremy, Sharon or Erika… but didn’t happen so I’m not gonna root any for now. I’m just gonna watch The Voice.”
