M.I.A. in Trouble After Madonna’s Super Bowl Half Time Show

While all of America was glued to their TV watching one of the closest Super Bowl games ever, the halftime entertainment was making waves. Before the Giants walked away with Super Bowl victory, of course, Madonna did her Madonna thing – she looked half her age and sang a couple bubble gum tunes that seemed juvenile at best. However once the choral hum began and “Like A Prayer began,” all seemed right with the world.

Although often controversial, Madonna kept things pretty tame during her over-produced set. However, when British rapper M.I.A took the stage during Madonna’s song “Give Me All Your Luvin,” things went south when she extended her middle finger and swore into the camera – while millions of live viewers gasped in response.

The singer – best known for the hit song “Paper Planes” – is now blaming nerves and adrenaline for the gesture that millions of Americans saw live on NBC.

Still reeling from “nipplegate” during Janet Jackson’s controversial moment, NBC has been careful to cover their bases, writing in the contract that all artists be responsible for any fines incurred if the FCC comes down on the NBC. The FCC  had previously fined NBC $550K back in 2004 after the infamous Jackson wardrobe malfunction.

So far, not too much word from M.I.A.’s (Mathangi ‘Maya’ Arulpragasam) camp. She is best known for her Grammy nominated song Paper Planes – which featured in film Slumdog Millionaire. Speaking of Grammys, Sports Interaction has all your Grammy odds.
