The only person who is a fan of Charlie Sheen right now is probably Tiger Woods. Since a knife-wielding Sheen reportedly straddled his wife and threatened to kill her on Christmas morning, the Two and a Half Men star has successfully managed to rip the front-page headliner away from the shamed, over-sexed golfer.
Sheen’s PR people are almost certainly fuming: Sheen was making strides to quash his bad boy image thanks to his successful run on Two and a Half Men, where, since 2003, he has become the highest paid actor on television playing a lovable, wise-cracking, womanizing jingle writer. Yes, it seemed Sheen had successfully picked up the pieces of his sordid past, which included shenanigans with Heidi Fleiss, shooting his ex-fiancée Kelly Preston in the arm, a 1997 attack on girlfriend Brittany Ashland that led to him being arrested and charged with domestic battery, as well as an ugly divorce from Denise Richards. Although Sheen had lived the life of a Hollywood playboy who had been above the law, it seemed he had finally “settled” with Brooke Mueller. Christmas morning, however, things took a turn for the worse when Mueller called police claiming that Sheen had choked her and threatened her with a knife.
TMZ recently obtained the 911 call as well as a signed affidavit where Mueller says that Sheen became enraged, grabbed her by the upper part of her throat while straddling her on the bed, pulled out a knife and held it to her throat, saying, “You better be in fear. If you tell anybody, I’ll kill you.”
Although Mueller was drunk when the call was made, police observed “red marks on the upper part of the front of her neck.”
Now although Sheen’s PR machine has spat out the advice, “do not be mislead by appearance,” it certainly appears that Sheen may have a problem with women, or anger, or both. In 1990, Sheen shot his fiancée Kelly Preston in the arm. Although they both claim it was an accident, their engagement was called off following the incident. In 1995, Sheen settled out of court with a UCLA student who claimed he struck her in the back of the head after she refused to sleep with him. In 1997, Sheen pleaded no contest to knocking Brittany Ashland to the floor, leaving her bloodied and unconscious. He was sentenced to two years’ probation with a suspended one-year jail term and 300 hours of community service. At his sentencing, he told the judge, “I feel this is very fair, and I’m grateful. You will not see me back in this courtroom.” In 2005, Denise Richards filed for divorce from Sheen while she was pregnant with their second child. Richards filed a restraining order against the actor and claimed that Sheen threatened to kill her.
Yesterday, a Chicago Sun-Times columnist managed to contact a long-time staffer on Two and a Half Men who testified that, “Charlie’s temper is legendary. We’re always on pins and needles, not knowing when he’ll explode.”
With a legendary temper, a bullet-ridden Kelly Preston, and even rumors that he slayed a porn star, the public has low expectations of Sheen. While Tiger Woods loses endorsements left and right for cheating, Charlie Sheen, who has allegedly threatened the lives of two wives, is more or less scandal-proof. Do you think Sheen’s latest episode will affect his television career? We’ve got Charlie Sheen odds on whether or not he’ll get canned from Two and a Half Men. Think he’ll join Scientology? Check into rehab? Go to jail, or move into a bachelor pad with Tiger Woods? Will Sheen renew his vows to Brooke Mueller or get back together with Denise Richards? Sports Interaction has your odds, turning a good old-fashioned celebrity scandal into cold hard cash for you.
