Sixty-five-year-old Cher is embarking on a new career path – that of a burlesque dancer.
Cher recently announced that her three-year stint at Caesars Palace Hotel and Casino will be ending, with her final performance slated for February 5, 2011.
The legendary singer said that the decision to end her glitzy Vegas show was so that could could focus on new projects including a tour promoting her new album, which has yet to be released. She is also starring in the upcoming flick, Burlesque, scheduled for release in November. In the movie, Cher stars alongside Christina Aguilera, who plays a country girl who moves to the big city searching for fame and winds up a burlesque dancer under Cher’s wing. Think Coyote Ugly, but burlesque.
Cher’s last Vegas performance will take place just weeks before Celine Dion is due to return to begin her second residency, which begins in March. With over 200 shows at the 4,300-seat Colosseum theatre at Caesars Palace, Cher’s Vegas show, appropriately titled “Cher” has brought back the glitzy, showgirly costumes and drama of yesteryear and features her biggest hits including, “If I Could Turn Back Time” and “Believe.” Her popular songs are punctuated with glamours costumes designed by fashion juggernaut Bob Mackie as well as dancers, aerialists, special effects and spectacular set designs.
“Cher is an entertainment legend,” John Meglen, co-CEO and president of AEG Live/Concerts West, said in a statement. “We are delighted that she has called The Colosseum at Caesars Palace home for three years. We wish her luck in future endeavors and thank her and the cast and crew for their dedication.”
